St. Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean Nation, part of the lessor Antillies, located south of Martinique and north of St. Vincent. A Windward Island, St. Lucia was named by Christopher Columbus after St. Lucy.

St. Lucia Weather

Average temperatures in St. Lucia range from 70 degrees Fahrenheit to the upper 90’s. Humidity on the island will average 70 to 90%, but is rarely a problem for visitors staying near the coast, due to the almost constant trade winds. Travelers planning excursions to the interior parts of the Island are advised to be prepared for high temperatures and humidity.

Because of its close proximity to the equator, St. Lucia does not experience well defined seasons. Weather can also vary significantly from one day to the next. The rainy season in St. Lucia occurs between June and November, but usually consists of short, sporadic, heavy showers with blue skies quickly following.

St. Lucia Culture

St. Lucia has a very rich cultural heritage, due in most part, to the fact that the island changed hands between the British and the French 14 times over it’s history. It wasn’t until 1979 that St. Lucia finally became an independent state.

Saint Lucia’s culture is a mix of African, French and English influences. The primary language is English, but a secondary languages is Creole, a form of French patois.

Popular music genres in St. Lucia are soca, and reggae. Folk Music is also a popular tradition in Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia hosts an internationally renowned Jazz Festival every year in May.
