Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay and Secrets St. James Montego Bay will be hosting a weeklong celebration to commemorate Jamaica’s Emancipation from Slavery (August 1st) and Jamaica’s Independence Day (August 6th). Guests are invited to come learn about the Jamaican culture and explore the sights, sounds and flavors (and did we say rum) our island has to offer.
Throughout the week, we will feature factual displays, cooking sessions, mixology classes, rum tasting sessions, dance lessons, special reggae shows, arts and crafts lessons and live dance shows. And that’s not all. On Independence Day, we will be hosting a parade to commence the Independence Day celebration, followed by a new production by the Entertainment Team called “Reggae Love”.
Guests are encouraged to wear the colors of the Jamaican flag: black, green and gold, as well as the colors associated with reggae music: black, green, gold and red.
It is sure to be a week to remember as we celebrate two monumental holidays in Jamaican history. We hope our guests are ready to have some fun…Yea Mon!

It’s going to be an exciting couple of days at Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay! The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has organized a retreat for influential travel bloggers to experience all of the beauty and excitement their island has to offer. And best of all, Secrets Wild Orchid will be providing the accommodations for everyone attending the event. From our Unlimited-Luxury® privileges to those extra little touches, we are excited to help make this event even more memorable for all of the guests.
The JTB Bloggers Retreat kicks off on Thursday, July 15th with a beach party hosted by Secrets Wild Orchid. Guests will dine on a variety of gourmet food, while listening to the sounds of a local musician. There’s nothing like a steel drum band to get the party started!
Over the next few days, the JTB has an exciting line-up of activities planned for the bloggers, including sailing to Negril, a tour of Mystic Mountain, Dunns River Falls and Dolphin Cove in Ocho Rios and of course time to enjoy all of the amenities that Secrets Wild Orchid has to offer! To wrap up the trip, our resort will host a dinner party on Sunday evening, giving our guests one last night of fun before departing for home in the morning.

Guests who visit Secrets Resorts & Spas in the Riviera Maya have a chance to visit one of the oldest sites in Mexico: Chichen Itza. Chichen Izta, which means “at the mouth of the well of Itza,” is the 2nd most visited archeological site in Mexico today and is also home to the Kukulkan Pyramid, which was elected as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World on July 7, 2007.
The Kukulkan Pyramid is a nine-step structure that culminates into a flat platform supporting a two-story temple. It was built in 800 A.D and stands over 24 meters tall. It was designed with a total of 365 stairs, 91 on each side to represent each day of the year. Additionally, the temple of Kukulkan, which sits on top of the pyramid, is a solar calendar. Every year on May 21, the sun aligns with the Kukulkan and the shadow of a snake slithering down the steps is revealed.
Even more so, the four staircases of the pyramid are said to represent the Mayan’s concept of the four World Ages. The Mayans believed that there were three worlds before ours, and that they were living in the fourth world and final world.

One of the most celebrated holidays in America is fast approaching. That’s right – the 4th of July is this weekend! If you’re planning to visit one of the Secrets Resorts & Spas over the holiday, then you’re in luck! We have a fun filled day planned for our guests to celebrate the 4th of July in style!
No matter what your interests are, we have an activity that you’re sure to enjoy. Here’s a sneak peak at what our guests at Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun will be up to.
Guests can kick off the day by taking a jungle bike ride in the morning or if they prefer something a little more low-key, then they can join the Uncle Sam stretching class at the gazebo. Guests who are feeling a little more competitive can join the water volleyball tournament (East USA vs. West USA) or the Independence Day flag football game on the beach.
In true spirit of the holiday, we will also be hosting a hot dog eating contest for our guests to show off their competitive eating skills in front of a cheering crowd. And last but not least, everyone’s invited to an awesome 4th of July BBQ beach party followed by a live rock band!
