Loved it. Wish we were still there. Hope to go back
What a truly unique resort! Totally loved it and the best thing is that it should only improve from here. We were so happy with our stay at Secrets Sanctuary that words and even pictures would struggle to even come close to experience. Hopefully this will help you be better informed on selection or preparation for attendance. I believe it was ranked 48/99 at the time when we left for holiday and upon returning in the 30’s. Having stayed at several top 20 listed hotels in Punta Cana in the past – all I can say is this place should improve upon those numbers significantly with the new management, new spa being built and great service – in fact we would rank it above all others we have been to in DR. If you are considering going soon then book it now and enjoy.
Weather was near perfect as always, sunny everyday with a light breeze most days and rain off and on throughout night at some point. We were fortunate enough to stay in Honeymoon suite (3047) which included an awesome interior with plenty of space, private pool, huge and outstanding deck overlooking crown of rook of Fortress, tops of the palm trees and an excellent view of the beautiful blue sea – definite WOW factor. It did not require a key in slot to keep AC going as some rooms apparently do. Would highly recommend researching room selection, as there are so many room options in a pretty wide variety of designs and areas. We personally thought the Imperial Suites (3038), Royalty Villas (1006, 1007, 2007), Castle Honeymoon Suites with pools (3044-3047) and Castle Junior Suites were our favorites as well as some of the Monarch Villas (2002-2006), but all rooms vary from the wood based villas, modern rooms in Fortress and Suites in larger and medium sized buildings located around Secrets beach. Although great design offers sea views from pretty much all rooms, of course some have better views than others. Our personal opinion would be to select either the closest to the sand or the highest elevation room for the best view. The private island rooms looked great but would not be our first pick. The Secrets beach is beautiful but small and question how packed it may get when resort fills up (reports were 28 – 32% capacity).
We were shocked that more people were not utilizing the beaches to each side of resort, as they were incredible with almost no people at all – we spent much quality time there. Food- I usually throw in disclaimer that food is so subjective and hold back on comments but feel compelled to report that both of us felt the food was significantly better that any other resort experienced in DR before. It started the first day with wonderful meals and continued throughout stay. On our second morning near the end of breakfast (poached eggs on muffin and hollandaise sauce, scrambled eggs in glass, French toast, etc.) the executive chef (Michael Thompson) introduced himself and made us feel so special to have that personal connection and show of caring for satisfaction. Choices not to miss- Teriyaki Salmon, Buffalo shrimp, Filet Mignon, grilled red snapper, Lobster/seafood buffet night, Teppanyaki, Chicken Milanese, Kung Pao chicken, any grilled fish and definitely the special coconut ice cream.
